Samantha Maund is a practising physiotherapist. She returned to university graduating with a BA Hons in Silversmithing and Metalwork from Camberwell School of Art 2000.
In 2002 she set up Brass Monkeys Studio with Jenifer Wall, home to 12 independent makers and artists. In December 2007 they moved Brass Monkeys to Portland Road in Hove where they were able to add a storefront to their workshops.
Samantha produces a range of hand raised and formed bowls and jewellery in silver and base metals.
Her designs are influenced by physiology, of cells and their matrix, their repeated design and what lies within.
The cellular designs are created by etching the surface of the metal with acid once they are formed. The surfaces are often patinated to add to the textural finish.
