By designer: Emma Leonard

Emma is a designer / maker based near the seaside in Dorset. She makes jewellery that combines natural influences with clean, considered lines to create a range of striking, individual and wearable designs.

Emma graduated with a BA (Hons) in Jewellery, Silversmithing and Allied crafts from London Guildhall University (John Cass) in 2001. As well as designing, making and selling her own work she also has a PGCE in post-16 education and has taught silversmithing students to degree level.

Emma likes to collage different metal elements together, working with etched metal, wire and cast forms. There is always a period of trial and error, putting together a jigsaw of all the individual elements and then rearranging until wearable pieces start to appear.

Emma's most recent collection of work has been inspired by fifties fabric prints and illustrations, influencing her choice of colour and form. She uses traditional silversmithing techniques to produce her work; piercing out by hand, filing, soldering and polishing etc. However she also uses more contemporary processes like acid etching to allow her to work with pattern.
